John T. Kartak grew up as the youngest among six kids on Green Lantern Farm near the beautiful Snohomish River Valley. His career as a General Contractor began in 1985 as part owner of AAA Kartak Glass & Closet where he worked several years as the Operations Manager. In the 1990’s, John was a crew-chief for a framing and remodeling contractor here in Snohomish and then helped form Cutting Edge Windows, LLC specializing in window replacements for multifamily apartment and condominium buildings. He served as part owner and General Manager up until being sworn in as Mayor of Snohomish in 2017.
In 1996, John officially "came home" to the City of Snohomish where he and his wife Jayme have raised five sons -Joshua, Keith, Adam, Ashton, and Gabriel. So far, they have ten grandchildren. John is a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Snohomish and is very active in our community. He can be seen greeting residents, business owners, and visitors on any given day - and during most community events - with a genuine interest in what people think of the services provided by City Hall under his direction.
As Mayor, John exercises an active role with the National League of Cities, the Association of Washington Cities, Snohomish County Cities, Snohomish County Mayors, East County (District-5) Mayors, and the U.S. Highway-2 Coalition. He is a board member for Snohomish County Tomorrow, Snohomish County Housing Affordability Regional Taskforce, Puget Sound Regional Council; Growth Management Policy Board, and the U.S. Navy League (Lake Washington & Everett Council). He has been Vice President of the Snohomish Kla-Ha-Ya Days festival and continues to serve as a City Liaison to the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association of businesses, the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce, and the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County. John is also a member of the Snohomish County Farm Bureau, Sons of the American Legion Post 96, Snohomish Kiwanis, Garden City Grange, Snohomish Sportsmen’s Club, and Spruce-Up Snohomish.
